Mobile Radio Procedure

Radio communications should be kept to a minimum by only communicating necessary information.  Once dispatched to a call, the responder should identify themselves as “River Falls First Responders are enroute” with the appropriate dispatch center.  Only one responder needs to communicate the First Responders as enroute, once this is done, there is no need for others to communicate this.

Once the appropriate Dispatch Center is notified that First Responders are enroute, Responders should then announce that they are responding on Private #1, our repeated frequency using their name so that ambulance personnel and other Responders are aware. If there is any question as to if the Dispatch Center has been informed that First Responders are enroute, the Responder should ask other Responders on the Private channel.

Once the previous communications are completed, radios should be tuned to the appropriate dispatch channel (Pierce or St Croix Fire) to assure that any updates to the call are received.

The first First Responder on scene shall notify the appropriate Dispatch Center that "River Falls First Responders on-scene". The Responder should then relay as much scene/patient information as possible to the responding ambulance with particular importance to scene safety issues, number of patients and identified life threats. This communication should be made on Private #1 or Private #2. If no response is received from ambulance personnel on either Private channel, the Responder should then attempt to contact the ambulance on the appropriate fire channel.

At the completion of the call, one responder can communicate to the dispatcher that “River Falls First Responders are clear and back in service.” This communication should be made on the appropriate fire channel.

Occasionally while on scene for a large or lengthy call, the Private #2 frequency may be utilized. Private #2 is a "direct mode" channel and bypasses the repeater and allowing for communications directly from one mobile radio to another. All personnel will be advised of such occurrence.
